RealOne Player Installation

Be sure to test and see if you already have a streaming video program installed.

Windows Users
Macintosh Users - Mac OS X

Windows Users

Recommended System Requirements

  • Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 4 or later, Windows XP
  • 300MHz Intel Pentium II processor or faster
  • 128 Megabytes of RAM or more
  • 65,000-color video display card set to display at 800x600 (video)
  • 56k modem, DSL, or cable modem
  • 16-bit sound card and speakers
  • Internet Explorer 5.0 or later

Get the Installer

  • Print out these directions beforehand, as the RealOne Player will want to restart your Web browser.
  • Visit Real's RealOne Player download site.
  • If you are running Internet Explorer ...
    • If you see the message "Do you want to install and run 'RealOne Player Installer'?" click the "Yes" button.
    • A "Download Manager" will appear.
    • Click the "X" to close it when the Download Manager is done downloading and you see "Preparing to install the RealOne Player" open.
  • If you are running Netscape ...
    • Netscape will attempt to save "RealOnePlayerV2GOLD.exe"
    • Use the "Save in" selector to first pick C: (which is your local hard drive), then a temporary directory (like "temp").
    • Click the "Save" button.
    • On your Taskbar in Windows, Click "Start," then "Run".
    • Click on the "Browse" button, then use the "Save in" selector to first pick C: (which is your local hard drive), then the temporary directory you selected (such as "temp").
    • When you see the file you saved, RealOnePlayerV2GOLD.exe, double-click it.
    • Click on "OK" to run the installer.

Install

  • You will see "Preparing to install the RealOne Player".
  • The "RealOne Install Wizard" box will appear with "Express Install" already set. Click the "Next" button.
  • The RealOne Install Wizard will display a licensing agreement. Click on the "Accept" button.
  • The RealOne Install Wizard will ask you to select your connection speed. Select the connection you have and click on the "Next" button.
  • You will see a "Please wait while we install RealOne Player on your computer." message.
  • The RealOne Install Wizard will say "Your web browser must be closed to complete installation ..." Click on the "OK" button.
  • The RealOne Install Wizard will ask if it should be the default media player. Uncheck all of the boxes:
    • "MP3"
    • "CD"
    • "DVD"
    • "MPEG and AVI video"
    • "Other Media (MIDI, Liquid, etc.)"
    • "Periodically check my system to maintain these preferences when the RealOne Player is not running"
  • Then click on the "Finish" button.
  • The "RealOne Player" will open and say "Welcome to RealOne Player!" Click on the "Cancel" button.
  • Click on the "Cancel" button again.
  • RealOne Player is now installed.

Macintosh Users - Mac OS X

Recommended System Requirements

  • G3, G4, MAC OS X compatible processor
  • At least 128MB of RAM
  • Mac OS X (10.1.1 or later)
  • Internet Explorer 5.1 or later or Netscape 6.2 or later

Get the Installer

  • Print out these directions beforehand, as the RealOne Player will want to close your Web browser.
  • Visit Real's RealOne Player download site.
  • Click on a download site, such as "Seattle, WA."
  • A "Downloads" box will open and indicate the software is downloading. Then a "Status" box will appear and say "Items remaining to UnStuff: 1"
  • After it is done UnStuffing, the RealOne Player icon will be on your Desktop, or wherever your default location for downloads has been set to. You may also see a RealOne Player Gold ".SIT" file, which you may delete.

Install

  • Double-click on the RealOne Player icon to begin installation.
  • The "RealOne Setup Assistant" box will appear, which says "Welcome to RealOne Player!" Click on the "Continue" button.
  • The RealOne Setup Assistant will display Release Notes. Click on "Continue" button.
  • The RealOne Setup Assistant will display a License Agreement. Click on the "Accept" button.
  • The RealOne Setup Assistant will ask you to select your Internet Connection. Select the connection you have at home and click on the "Continue" button.
  • The RealOne Setup Assistant will ask you what Media Types you want to play using RealOne Player. You can click on the "Continue" button or change your settings if you like, then click on the "Continue" button.
  • The RealOne Setup Assistant will ask you to Sign In. Just click on the "Later" button.
  • The RealOne Player will open up on your desktop.
  • Quit the RealOne Player.
  • Quit and relaunch your browser.

Macintosh Users - Mac OS 8 & 9

Recommended System Requirements

  • G3 233 (or faster) PowerPC
  • At least 64MB of RAM, Virtual Memory turned on, set to 12MB
  • Mac OS 8.5 or later
  • Internet Explorer 4.01 or later or Netscape 4.05 or later

Get the Installer

  • Print out these directions beforehand, as the RealPlayer 8 will want to close your Web browser.
  • Visit Real's RealOne Player download site.
  • Click on a download site, such as "Seattle, WA."
  • A "Downloads" box will open and indicate the software is downloading. Then a "Status" box will appear and say "Items remaining to UnStuff: 1"
  • After it is done UnStuffing, the RealPlayer icon will be on your Desktop, or wherever your default location for downloads has been set to. You may also see a RealPlayer Gold ".SIT" file, which you may delete.

Install

  • Double-click on the RealPlayer icon to begin installation.
  • The "RealPlayer Setup Assistant" box will appear, which says "Welcome to RealOne Player!" Click on the "Next" button.
  • The RealPlayer Setup Assistant will display a License Agreement. Click on the "Accept" button.
  • The RealPlayer Setup Assistant will display a folder where the RealPlayer will be installed. Click the "Next" button to accept this location, or the "Browse" button to choose another location on your hard drive.
  • The RealPlayer Setup Assistant will give you several options for downloading the software. Click or unclick these options to your preference and click on the "Continue" button when done.
  • The RealPlayer Setup Assistant will ask for your permission to close other applications. Click the "Yes" button.
  • RealPlayer 8 will install and open up on your desktop.
  • Close RealPlayer 8 by clicking the "X" in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Close your Web browser by clicking the "X" in the upper right-hand corner, then restart your browser.
